Penny’s Story

We met Penny* during an outreach session. She came up to the team because she wanted one of the gift bags that we were carrying and what followed was the beginning of an amazing friendship. Penny had found herself involved in prostitution as a result of extremely unfortunate circumstances. She was addicted to drugs and had lost her daughter to the care system. Penny was living a miserable life, she felt hopeless and was struggling with feelings of guilt and shame.

WOFM were there to encourage her and to help rebuild her confidence so that she felt able to make changes in her life. Since meeting the team, Penny found faith in God and entered into drug rehabilitation. She is now free from drug addiction and has been clean for 2 years. Additionally, Penny passed a diploma in health and social care which has helped her to start a new career.

Penny has also since reunited with her daughter who was taken into social services over 10 years ago. The first time they met was deeply emotional for both Penny and her daughter but it was an amazing day in Penny’s life and is what she had been dreaming about for many years. Penny is so proud that her daughter is doing so well and is currently studying at university.

In 2017, Penny got married to a wonderful man who values her. Penny’s story is an amazing testimony of a young woman who thought there was no hope for her life and yet God intervened and turned things around, surpassing her wildest dreams. We believe that with Jesus all things are possible.
